Ok, so it wasn't "Raiders of the lost ark", nor the "Temple of Doom", not even "The last crusaider" which - I admit - I barely remember. "Crystal Skull" featured no cool lasso tricks, no cool gun tricks, no goofy jokes. Not a single eye floating in the soup, either. The crystal skulls looked mega cool, though I kept expecting one of them to crack open as a bow towards the monkey brain feast.
Still, it's a movie worth watching, in a seven-out-of-ten sort of way. Particularly in a Gold Class cinema with people serving you butter chicken and Earl Grey tea.
Have you ever noticed how the good things start with the letter S? Sex, scuba diving, sleep, single malt and Saturdays. This blog is all about the good things in life, of course. As a writer, however, I blog mostly about books.

Weeds - the TV series
What I really want to do is go see the new Indiana Jones in one of the Gold Class cinemas around Auckland. I want to stretch out on the super-comfy first-class aeroplane seat and have the movie staff ply me with champagne and chocolates throughout the movie.
For the time being, though, I'll have to settle for watching Weeds on TV. It's not bad. Highly disturbing in many ways, but not bad at all. Still, watch this space for the Indiana Jones. I'm not in the habit of giving up my dreams.

Nim's Island
"Nim's Island" is the type of movie I never would have seen BC (before children). Not even Jodie Foster's name would have persuaded me. Too simple, too OTT, too _childish_....
The non-mother in me can see all that. The mother is just happy it's a movie a three year old and a five year old can enjoy, even if they have to climb into my lap during the more suspense-filled action-packed scenes (ahem).
And I couldn't help thinking that it would be awfully cool to raise my kids on Nim's island, away from all the drugs and swear words and friends who teach them to say "life is not worth living". Ok, minus the volcano, perhaps. Not that New Zealand hasn't got a volcano....

An Augusta Goodnight Mystery
I’m reading a book that my 3-year old son selected from me at the library. It has an angel on the cover and it’s a classical cozy mystery (my favourite). I couldn’t have chosen better myself.
What makes you pick one book over another at your local library?
